Power outages may result from fire, flooding, electrical power crisis, heat waves, violent storms and other natural events. Appropriate decision making before, during and immediately following power outages is necessary to protect consumers from unsafe food and water and to minimize product loss. Having an emergency plan in place is the best strategy. This includes knowing the proper food and water safety precautions to take when emergencies happen.
