UPDATE: July 25, 2023

Beginning Wednesday, July 26 through tentatively Friday, Aug. 4, the road closure on 1st St. will shift south from C Ave. to D Ave, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday with detour signs in place throughout the campus. Access to Mercy Housing will be via the B Ave. entrance. The sidewalks will remain accessible on each side of the street.

C Ave. between 1st St, to 2nd St, is also part of the closure from 7am-5pm, Monday through Friday. During this time, parking will be inaccessible in this area.

Progress remains steady on the future Health and Human Services Center as Turner Construction and the project’s subcontractors continue to install, prime and paint drywall and glazing (windows) is being installed at the exterior storefront.

“As this work continues, offices, community counters, lobby areas and collaboration areas are starting to take shape,” said Capital Improvements Manager Genevieve Vargas.

Additionally, the standing seam metal roof has started to be installed, roof pavers on the outside patio will be installed in two weeks, and work to connect the water line on C Avenue is in progress.

The construction team is also preparing buildings 108 and 109 for demolition in late July. The buildings have been vacated, surplus furniture removal is underway and utility disconnection and abatement are the next steps prior to demo commencing.

Infrastructure work continues as well. Last week, crews re-opened Richardson Drive between B Ave. and C Ave., where water and sewer connections were being made.

Now, crews have pivoted to closing 1st St. from A Ave. to C Ave. to bring the much-needed new water line to the new HHS Center facility with a tentative completion date of Aug. 1.

The HHS Center is slated to open in early 2024. For additional updates on progress and services, click here.
