County Solid Waste Local Task Force seeks new members

The Placer County Solid Waste Local Task Force (SWLTF) has two vacancies and is requesting applications from interested individuals. The SWLTF was created in 1990 in response to the California Integrated Waste Management Act. Originally created to coordinate the development of countywide integrated waste management plans, the current role of the SWLTF, in conjunction with the cities and County, is to review those plans every five years, provide a forum for discussion of regional solid waste issues, and assure countywide waste management practices remain consistent with the hierarchy of waste management practices defined in PRC Section 40051.
The Task Force, appointed by the Board of Supervisors, is made up of 16 members, representing the Planning Commission, County Board of Supervisors, each of Placer County’s incorporated cities and towns, franchised waste haulers, landfill and materials recovery facility operators, an environmental group and three at-large members, which represent the general public.
Currently, one environmental group position and one at-large member position are vacant. Only Placer County residents are eligible to apply for the member-at large vacancy. An environmental group’s representative must either live in Placer County or be part of a group with a local chapter.
The Task Force meets on the first Thursday of Feb., May, Aug. and Nov. in Auburn at 9 a.m. Members do not receive compensation for their services and members serve at the pleasure of the Board.
