Election season candidate filing begins Jan. 3 in Placer County

 The 2022 election season is set to kick off this January in Placer County.

The signature-in-lieu period for the June 7 statewide direct primary election is open to Placer County residents at 8 a.m. on Jan. 3 and closes at 5 p.m. on Feb. 9.

Candidates interested in obtaining signature-in-lieu petitions for the office of Placer County supervisor may do so beginning Jan. 12.

The candidate filing period officially opens at 8 a.m. on Feb. 14 and closes at 5 p.m. on March 11

The March 11 deadline will be extended to allow additional candidates to file from 8 a.m. on March 14 to 5 p.m. on March 16 should an incumbent fail to file for the local office.

Positions are available for various federal, state and county offices, as well as some school boards and superior court justice positions in the county.

Candidates can file at the Placer County Elections Office at 2956 Richardson Drive in North Auburn during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Placer County Elections Office is holding a free candidate workshop on Feb. 19 to take the mystery out of running for office.

Prospective candidates and their supporters are encouraged to attend. Members of the media and the general public are also invited. The workshops will explain many of the details involved in running for public office; including campaign financial disclosure filing, campaigning techniques and working with the media.
