Placer County launches annual Internet Service Survey for residents and businesses

Placer County has launched its 2021 Internet Service Survey to help identify communities where internet service is inadequate and broadband infrastructure improvements need to be made. 

The 2021 Internet Service Survey will gauge how Placer residents and business owners use the internet and rate the quality of their service. The survey is also intended to help identify unserved and underserved communities. 

“Identifying broadband service needs for our residents and businesses is an ongoing priority for the county,” said Placer County Chief Information Officer Jarrett Thiessen. “Reliable high-speed internet service is particularly lacking in Placer’s rural communities. We see infrastructure improvements and expansions as imperative to support the safety and connectivity necessary in today’s world.”

The county has committed $10 million of its American Rescue Plan Act funding to invest into broadband infrastructure. Additionally, the county is actively seeking federal and state funding to further support infrastructure improvements, which are then deployed through the county’s Last Mile Broadband grant program. Recently, Wave Broadband received $500,000 through the county’s first Last Mile Broadband grant to help fund the expansion of high-speed internet service for approximately 1,500 residents and businesses in Placer.
