East Placer - North Lake Tahoe Housing
Roughly two-thirds of the housing inventory in North Lake Tahoe is purchased for seasonal use, with the short-term rental market limiting local residents’ access to much-needed long-term rental housing. Many of Eastern Placer's employers rely on seasonal employees who face a shortage of affordable rental options and are often forced to live far from work or in overcrowded situations.
To alleviate these issues for the local workforce and increase housing options for permanent residents, Placer County is working to increase the availability of housing options for a variety of income types, including changing codes and policies, addressing legislation, creating financial incentive programs, and building new homes.
Placer County offers funding sources that can help homebuyers with down payments or complete renovations, and some programs do not require reimbursement. Learn more about our workforce housing policies and programs below.
