Placer County Building Department simplifies building inspection appointments

The Placer County Building Department is changing its inspection request hours of operation to better serve building permit customers.

Beginning Sept. 7, customers can request a building permit inspection no later than 3 p.m. on the day prior to the inspection date.

Shifting the inspection request cut-off time to 3 p.m. will streamline scheduling and allow the inspection team to publish the inspection schedule by 5 p.m. the day before. This will also allow ample time for permit holders and team members to prepare for next-day appointments.

Previously, the Building Department accepted inspection requests until midnight prior to next-business-day inspection dates. The system created logistical challenges for the inspection team, leaving customers unaware of the inspector’s arrival time until the day of the inspection.

“Today’s construction environment is challenging enough without inspection scheduling complexities,” said Placer County Chief Building Official Tim Wegner.  “We’re excited to make this change for our valued customers.”

With the new scheduling system in place, the county will be regionally consistent with other counties and cities. The new system was welcomed by the Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe and Placer County Contractors Association.
