New survey asks veterans how Placer Veterans Services can better serve them

Published on Dec. 17, 2020

The Placer County Veterans Services Office is developing a strategic plan to better serve local veterans and is asking Placer County’s active duty service members and veterans for their input.

Veterans Services Office offers free assistance to active duty military, veterans, and family members in accessing benefits they have earned through their time in service, including college tuition fee waivers, health system access and other essential services.

In 2019 the Veterans Services Office served over 10,000 veterans, facilitated disbursement of over $100 million of discretionary federal funding to veterans and saved veterans over $2 million in college fees.

Currently, only about 20% of Placer County veterans use the office. Through data collected in this survey the Veterans Services Office hopes to expand its services to even more Placer County veterans, by becoming more accessible and focusing outreach efforts on areas of the greatest need.

“We are always striving to improve our veterans assistance programs,” said Placer County Veterans Services Officer Derrick Oliveira. “This survey will help us to assess the needs of our veteran community and continue to connect them with these vital services.”

Veterans may take the survey online or call to request a paper copy at 916-780-3294. The survey will close Jan. 31, 2021.
