The Placer County Youth Commission is recognizing outstanding local teens in its fifth annual Youth Impact Awards. The deadline to apply online at www.placeryouth.com is Feb. 6. Teens who have invested in their schools and left a positive impact in their communities are encouraged to apply.

Homeless point-in-time count
The Homeless Resource Council of the Sierras , a collaborative group of agencies and nonprofit organizations from Placer and Nevada counties, has announced that Placer County’s annual point-in-time count of homeless individuals will take place Jan. 24.

Board of Supervisors historic first
District 4 Supervisor Kirk Uhler was chosen to serve as chair of the Placer County Board of Supervisors for 2019 by his fellow board members today during their first meeting of the new year. Newly-elected District 1 Supervisor Bonnie Gore was named as vice chair.

Sutter Health Valley Area contribution
The Placer County Board of Supervisors approved a $1 million contribution from Sutter Health Valley Area today to benefit the county’s Whole Person Care program in 2019.

Special primary election set for March 26
California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation on Jan. 15 declaring a special primary election for the 1st Senate District of California to be held on March 26. Should no candidate receive 50 percent plus one of the vote, a special general election will also be held on June 4.
