Published on March 15, 2018

Applications are currently being accepted to fill the upcoming vacancy representing Placer County’s District 3 on the Assessment Appeals Board. As the Board of Equalization for Placer County, the Assessment Appeals Board is responsible for equalizing the assessment of property on the county’s tax roll. Applicants are required to have a minimum of five years of licensed or certified professional experience in California as an accountant, real estate broker, attorney or property appraiser.

The Assessment Appeals Board is comprised of five members who are nominated by a Placer County supervisor and appointed by a majority vote of the Board of Supervisors. The current vacancy will be nominated by District 3 Supervisor Jim Holmes, though residents anywhere in Placer County are eligible to apply.

Using a rotating schedule among the five members, three members of the Assessment Appeals Board preside over hearings held every three weeks, or as determined by the Assessment Appeals Board, to decide appeals filed by property owners.

Candidates are encouraged to visit the Assessment Appeals Board website or contact the Placer County Clerk of the Board to learn more about the requirements for serving on this board. Applications to serve on the board can be found on the Committees and Commissions website. Completed applications should be sent to the Clerk of the Board, 175 Fulweiler Avenue, in Auburn, 95603.
