Placer County is a world-wide destination for outdoor recreation, with a variety of outdoor recreational areas to utilize, including but not limited to:
Gold panning parks
With tobacco being the number one piece of litter found in recreational areas, the Placer County Tobacco Prevention Program wants to help jurisdictions implement smoke-free recreational areas to protect the residents and outdoor areas of our County.
However, just under one-third of the parks, playgrounds, campgrounds, and beaches in the county are still not smoke-free. Lake Tahoe (located on the eastern side of Placer County) receives about 3 million visitors per year and Auburn (the county seat) is known as the Endurance Capitol of the World. Neither of these areas have smoke-free parks, playgrounds, campgrounds, or beaches (with the exception of one park in Auburn, out of the eight parks total in this city).
