Former Placer County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Skogen was sentenced today in Placer County Superior Court by the Honorable Judge Jeff Penney. Skogen pled guilty on November 12, 2015, to one count of unlawful sex with a minor as a felony. Pursuant to a plea agreement reached with our office, the defendant was sentenced to three years formal probation and must serve 150 days in jail and attend counseling. He will be eligible to apply for alternative sentencing. Skogen will also be prohibited from being in the presence of minors without their parent or guardian present.

The charges in the case stemmed from a 2011 relationship the deputy had with a 17 year-old victim who, at the time, was a volunteer with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department. The case was investigated by the District Attorney Office at the request of the Placer County Sheriffs Office. The prosecutor assigned to the case, Jamie Smith, was pleased with the resolution in the case and believed it appropriate when considering the totality of the evidence in the case and the wishes of the victim.
