School safety forum March 8
Following the tragic recent school shooting in Florida, Placer County leaders will convene a school safety forum March 8 in Roseville to discuss how everyone can work together to help prevent an attack in our community.

DeWitt History Museum grand opening
The new DeWitt History Museum in North Auburn is preparing to celebrate its grand opening Feb. 27, 74 years to the day since the DeWitt campus opened as a military hospital during World War II. This new addition to the Placer County Museums family will focus on the important role the DeWitt property has played in the history of the area.

Highway 89 turn lane extension to relieve traffic
Southbound traffic on state Route 89 can back up from the entrance of Squaw Valley to Interstate 80 during a big ski weekend. On Saturday, Placer County will continue a pilot project to extend the turn lane into the resort, aimed at relieving this congestion.

Resident picks up one millionth cigarette butt
Dawley has made it her mission to help clean up the streets of greater Auburn by sweeping up as many discarded cigarette butts as she can. Local media documented Dawley picking up her ceremonial one millionth cigarette butt in front of Mel’s Diner in North Auburn Feb. 14.

Child Support Services ranks fourth out of 49
Placer County Department of Child Support Services ranked fourth out of 49 local child support agencies in California for federal fiscal year 2017.

Planning Commission seeks members
Recent resignations have left two vacancies on the Placer County Planning Commission. The seven-member commission is comprised of a representative from each of the county’s five supervisorial districts and two at-large members.

State and federal legislative platform
The Placer County Board of Supervisors today voted 4-0 to approve the annual legislative platform - serving as the basis for the county’s advocacy efforts with the executive and legislative branches of state and federal government. District 5 Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery was absent from the meeting due to illness.

Public Health Laboratory to close
Following a lengthy discussion, the Placer County Board of Supervisors today voted to authorize a contract with Sacramento County to provide public health laboratory services, and close the Placer County Public Health Laboratory in Auburn by the end of June.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors today approved an agreement that could result in the development of the first new hotel in Kings Beach in decades.

Sunset Area Plan, Placer Ranch Specific Plan draft
Members of the community can get a closer look at preliminary drafts for the proposed Sunset Area Plan and Placer Ranch Specific Plan through Feb. 28 as Placer County moves forward with its vision for south Placer to create a vibrant community and promote economic development and job growth in the region.
